“I cannot imagine you using a scrub!” was what Ting Li said when I ordered a bottle of Pacific Salt Scrub from Joey. I couldn’t either. I just thought I’d give it a try, to support Joey’s new business and to give myself a treat.
Joey has been a close friend for many years. She was the producer of The Changi Murals and the audiopost producer of Keluar Baris and Tanjong Rhu. We hung out a lot especially during the preproduction of Changi Murals and I remember she would drag Fran (then boyfriend, now husband) and me into shops like Watsons so that she could study the labels on the latest beauty products. Little did I know that her interest and curiosity would develop into a second career!
She started Kanga Organics because she wanted to introduce organic skincare products to people in Singapore. The products that she carries have been officially certified to be organic and free of animal testing.
So I bought a bottle of Sandal Wood Verbena Pacific Salt Scrub. I had absolutely no idea what to expect. I opened it and saw that there was actually salt inside! Not just any salt but huge grains of sea salt from the Pacific Ocean! The salt was soaked in decadence – Lehua Honey, Virgin Coconut Butter, Coconut Oil, Mango Seed Butter, Avocado Fruit Oil, Macadamia Nut Oil and Kukui Nut Oil. It smelled so good I was so tempted to taste it.
I used it at night and felt really relaxed after the shower. There was a layer of oil left on my skin that kept it feeling moisturized and pampered. It made it feel even better knowing that the ingredients used were organic and sustainably grown. All that for $39.90 was really worth it! It’s still sitting by the shower so I have it within reach anytime I feel like giving myself another treat.
